Free Sound Effects for Games and Movies

What is Foley?

Foley is a range of live sound effects. Originally developed for live broadcasts of radio drama in the early 1920s in various radio studios around the world. Named after sound-effects artist Jack Foley. This is the reproduction of everyday sound effects  with destination for film, video, games and other media in post-production to enhance audio quality.

Is it a music?

No. These reproduced sounds can be anything from the swishing of clothing and footsteps to squeaky doors and breaking glass. It helps to create a sense of reality within a scene. Without these crucial background noises, movies feel unnaturally quiet and uncomfortable. But music is also very important to build mood and tension in your game or movie.

Choice of tools

Sound is very important to integrate the player with the game. You want to make him feel like he is in the new world. We decide to move forward and start to build the own library of sounds for my home studio Multipainkiller. Collecting good rig may take the time, but professional tools will help us to get quality sound of surrounding world and even to compose the music. This journey I will start with ZOOM H6 armored with MSH-6 Capsule, XY mics and SSH-6 Shotgun microphone. To keep it nice and clear my choose is for the WaveLab software created by Steinberg. For music design just in case we may need it from time to time I will try with CASIO CTK 6200 and M-AUDIO OXYGEN with support of CUBASE software, also created by Steinberg.

What is the goal?

The main goal is to focus on gaining experience in the sound effects production and be able to support my projects with great sounds. Based on this skills I will start to building the free sound effects library for you. I hope to this will became a helpful for other artist to complete their goals.

How much will it cost?

Free Sound Effects for Games and Movies? – Yes! I am going to create free to use library of sound effect for games and movies. If you would like to get idea of what type of sounds going to be add as the first, please see project “One Man Helicopter” for Unreal Engine 4. All sounds in this project has to be replaced with new, from buttons, switches, engine, rotors, rubbing against the pilot’s seat, wind, ambient and more. Those sounds you will be available to get as separately files and this is how this library will grow. Over time it will start to gain dimension, and more variants will appear.
